This introductory unit is based on having a discussion about boys’ and girls’ changing body and secondary sex characteristics. Student activities are included to reinforce learning. Teachers notes Part 2 The menstrual cycle
During puberty your body is changing in more ways than you know. It starts to produce reproductive hormones, which can result in mood swings, and emotional changes you don’t always feel in control of. You may also feel more sensitive and self-conscious about your body, just in time to coincide with the onset of increased body odour and pimples. Growing into a man or a woman can sometimes feel like you got a raw deal, but it’s only a phase, and puberty is a great sign that you’re body is healthy, functioning and maturing as normal. This unit discusses the importance of the menstruation cycle. If the boys are present for this topic, it suggests that they are included by discussing about and identifying the significant women in a boy’s life, both now and in the future. E.g.
